Creating a Redirect in Warhead

Creating a Redirect in Warhead //

If you’re modifying any page type, whether that is a product, brand, category, extra page etc. and you’re either a) setting the URL slug for the first time, or B) changing the URL slug to something new due to the name of the page changing, you can follow these steps in order to create a redirect in Warhead. For our example, we will use a product page type, but the process is essentially the same for each page type. NOTE: If this is a page that has just been created within the last 24 hours and you’re setting the URL slug for the first time, you DO NOT need to worry about creating a redirect as this page will not have been indexed yet. You also do not need to worry about creating the redirect if your site is not yet live.

  1. Log into your Warhead admin and find the product that you’re wanting to create the redirect for and modify it:
  2. Once you’re modifying the page, on the right hand side you will go to the last tab for “Search Engines” like you see below.

  3. From the Search Engines section, if the slug and page title are currently blank you can “Create from Name” to generate the URL slug based on the name of the page. Or if the slug is going to be slightly different from the name you can manually enter it in. Once you have the URL slug and Page title entered, you can click the green button that says “Save” at the bottom of the page.

  4. Once you click save, next to the URL Slug field you will see an error message pop up on the screen and a new field will appear which says “Create Redirect”. Drop the menu down and select “Yes”. Once you have that option set to “Yes”, you can then save the page and thus create the redirect. NOTE: Just as a reminder, if the site is not live, or if this is a page that has been created within the last 24 hours and you’re setting the URL slug for the first time, you DO NOT need to worry about creating a redirect as this page will not have been indexed yet. In those instances, you can set the Create Redirects field to “No” and click the Save button. The error message you just received should not pop up again.

  5. If you want to confirm that the redirect was created successfully, you can go to the Dashboard > Redirects section of Warhead.

Submitting the Updates to Google Search Console //

Now that you’ve updated your URL slug and created the redirect, you’ll ideally want to log into your Google Search Console account to request indexing for that page.

  1. Once you’re logged into your Google Search Console account, at the top of the page you should see a search bar where you can “Inspect any URL” on your site. Enter the URL for the page you just created the new redirect for (like you see below) and hit the enter key on your keyboard.

  2. This will bring you to a page like you see in the below screenshot. In the bottom right corner of the section that says URL is not on Google, you should see a button that says “Request Indexing” which you can go ahead and click on.

  3. Once you select request indexing, a window should pop up confirming that that URL has been added to a crawl que so that it can hopefully get indexed in a timelier manner. You can click the “Got It” button in the bottom right corner of the page to complete the process.

Submit URL’s in Bing Webmaster Tools //

Similar to Requesting indexing in Search Console, you can use the Submit URL’s tool within Bing Webmaster tools to let the Bing search engine know of the changes you made to the page on your website. To submit a URL you can follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Bing Webmaster Tools account by going to the following link: https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster/
  2. Once you’re logged in, on the left-hand side of the page, under the “Configure My Site” section select the option to “Submit URL’s”:

  3. From there you can enter the URL into the text box for the page you made updates to and then click the submit button like you see below in order to complete the process.
